(1/1)

clark thompson:
Ephesians 4:20-24

King James Version (KJV)

20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Ephesians 4:20-24

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

20 We do not learn Christ by following the world; we are not able to grow in Him by doing the acts of the flesh instead of allowing Him to work thru us.

21 If we have received His word then we will not live in a way that does not show that we have the Word. We will not be perfect but we will have a fight against the flesh every day. In Him we find the truth, the world does not hold the truth.

22 We die to ourselves and live by Him. We do not do what we want to but do what He wants us to do. We should as we grow look less like our old selves and look more like Christ. We before we came to Christ were convinced what that the sins of the flesh were good or alright but we now know that only His ways are right.

23 Thru us having the Spirit we will have a change of mind, we will think less like the flesh or in the way of sin and think more in a way God would.

24 We are to be new people and not to live in our old ways.

Better to be a servant of the King than to be a king in hell.

Referring back to verses 17-19, Paul was talking about those that have never come to Christ or knew God.

The NAS makes this much clearer that he was talking to them about their previous lives as nonbelievers and their walk in sin.

--- End quote ---

But now they have to walk in Christ with their new heart and spirit.
