Luke 1:78-79

KJV 78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

MSTC 78 Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day spring from on high hath visited us: 79 To give light to them that sat in darkness, and in shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace."

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

78 The dawn from on high most likely refers to Jesus. Jesus coming is the greatest sign of God’s mercy on us. Jesus came so we could be saved. God knew needed a Savior and sent Him. This is mercy and grace. Jesus coming was God’s last and greatest visit thus far but is not His last He will return.

79 Christ came and set an example for us. He came to die so we might live by Him. He made a way for us to leave the darkness of this world and live in the light of God’s Word. We are made new because He died for the flesh, He allows us to die to flesh and live by the Spirit.

Better to be a servant of the King than to be a king in hell.

JB Horn:
It is a messianic reference.

Isaiah 9:2 The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.

Isaiah 60:1 "Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. 2 "For behold, darkness will cover the earth And deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you. 3 "Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Malachi 4:2 "But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.
