Luke 2:4-7King James Version (KJV)
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Luke 2:4-7
MSTC 4 And Joseph also ascended from Galilee, out of a city called Nazareth, into Jewry: unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and lineage of David: 5 to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, which was with child. 6 And it fortuned while they were there, her time was come that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her first begotten son. And wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them within, in the inn.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

4 He lived in Nazareth which many because of this believed his family was from there but the did not own the land Rome owed it so they lived where they could work we learn from scripture that Joseph was a carpenter so he may have been able to find much more work in Nazareth. The city of Bethlehem is important because while it is not the city the kingdom was set up, the was Jerusalem but it was the city David was from those who were of the David’s line those who had a claim to the throne who have went to this city at this time to be counted.

5 Mary was pregnant and they were engaged, these two did not mix at this time. In the rare case that a woman would get pregnant there were three way it could happen force by another which could be allowing them to marry her or face death for the punishment of adultery or willing with someone else which would be consider adultery and could result in death of both people or could just result in the engagement being broken off or for the one she was engaged to be with her before they were wed which could mean the wedding date happen right away none of these ways the result of this pregnancy though.

6 She gave birth to Jesus is Bethlehem, the city the Messiah was to be born in. Later during Jesus’ life people claim He was not Christ or Messiah because He was not of the city of David but He was born there and they did not know it.

7 This showed and over crowding but remember they had family in this town so it also showed a sign of bitterness because Mary was pregnant, they could have made room, this city would have mainly held the family of David and while it was little they could have made room but chose not to get involved with a unmarried pregnant woman and the man she was with.

Joseph and Mary had taken their marriage vows but had not consummated the marriage, so they technically were not married but no one would have known.

Mat 1:25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.

The Christ had to be born in Bethlehem to fulfill the prophecy:

Mic 5:2 "But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity."

VS 7

And she brought forth her firstborn son. Whether Mary had any other children or not has been a matter of controversy. It seems by this that she did have other children.
