There are many references to fearing God in the scriptures. What is this fear, can we fear and love God at the same time?

Wow, a lot of verses there Bob.

I think fear we are talking about is the acknowledgement of God's sovereignty and authority.
This is something even the demons acknowledged to Christ.

In leadership classes you are taught that fear or respect can give you the same result from your subordinates. They are some times interchangeable, I wonder if the old Greek had a word for respect.

What is this fear, can we fear and love God at the same time?

I believe it is the fear of the coming judgement. You love your parents even though you know you will be disciplined by them.

It is a fear of displeasing Him.

Would you want to make your mother weep.. how much more so our heavenly father? being children we do wrong often without knowing and sometimes we bring pain to our parents. After a few of those occasions and as we grow and know more of life we have a fear of saddening them again with each path we take into the unknown as we journey in our faith
