Luke 2:36-38King James Version (KJV)
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Luke 2:36-38
ACV 36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (being advanced in many days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, 37 and this woman was a widow to eighty-four years), who did not depart from the temple, serving with fastings and supplications night and day. 38 And having stood near at that same hour, she acknowledged the Lord, and spoke about him to all those who were awaiting redemption in Jerusalem.

36 This shows that women can also be called by god to do things; it is not just men called. She was Jewish because she was of the tribe of Asher. This meant while she lived at the temple she was not one who could work there.
37 She was older than 91 perhaps over a hundred. She chose to devote her life to God after her husband’s death, she could have easily turned against God because her husband died but she turned to Him. In Timothy scripture talks about young widows which she would have been and how it is better that they remarry, she was an exception because her not having a husband was not a distraction, she kept serving the Lord. We should serve the Lord in all we do.
38 Christ would bring redemption but not in the way people thought. Christ would not redeem them from Rome but from their sins.
Better to be a servant of the King than to be a king in hell.
