Luke 2:36-38King James Version (KJV)
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Luke 2:36-38

ACV 36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (being advanced in many days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, 37 and this woman was a widow to eighty-four years), who did not depart from the temple, serving with fastings and supplications night and day. 38 And having stood near at that same hour, she acknowledged the Lord, and spoke about him to all those who were awaiting redemption in Jerusalem.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

36 This shows that women can also be called by god to do things; it is not just men called. She was Jewish because she was of the tribe of Asher. This meant while she lived at the temple she was not one who could work there.

37 She was older than 91 perhaps over a hundred. She chose to devote her life to God after her husband’s death, she could have easily turned against God because her husband died but she turned to Him. In Timothy scripture talks about young widows which she would have been and how it is better that they remarry, she was an exception because her not having a husband was not a distraction, she kept serving the Lord. We should serve the Lord in all we do.

38 Christ would bring redemption but not in the way people thought. Christ would not redeem them from Rome but from their sins.

Better to be a servant of the King than to be a king in hell.

A few other translations:

36 And there was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having lived with her husband seven years from her maidenhood,
37 And as a widow even for eighty-four years. She did not go out from the temple enclosure, but was worshiping night and day with fasting and prayer.
38 And she too came up at that same hour, and she returned thanks to God and talked of [Jesus] to all who were looking for the redemption (deliverance) of Jerusalem. AMP

36 There was also a prophet named Hannah Bat-P’nu’el, of the tribe of Asher. She was a very old woman — she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage 37 and had remained a widow ever since; now she was eighty-four. She never left the Temple grounds but worshipped there night and day, fasting and praying. 38 She came by at that moment and began thanking God and speaking about the child to everyone who was waiting for Yerushalayim to be liberated.  CJB

36 The prophet Anna was also there in the temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel from the tribe of Asher, and she was very old. In her youth she had been married for seven years, but her husband died. 37 And now she was eighty-four years old.[h] Night and day she served God in the temple by praying and often going without eating.
38 At that time Anna came in and praised God. She spoke about the child Jesus to everyone who hoped for Jerusalem to be set free. CEV

Other prophetess can be found in the scriptures, not that rare of an occurrence.
Exodus 15:20; Judges 4:4; 2 Kings 22:14; Acts 2:18; 21:9

Since prophecy comes from the Spirit, this is again confirmation from the Holy Ghost that this is the Christ Child.

Isn't it amazing that at least two people knew who the baby Jesus was the minute he arrived at the temple.

That is amazing, but what is even more amazing is the fact that the Jews grew in numbers to love him and respect him for three years, and then on one day they all turned on Him.
