A walk of faith.

“So walk ye in him.”
- Colossians 2:6

By C. H. Spurgeon

If we have received Christ himself in our inmost hearts, our new life will manifest its intimate acquaintance with him by a walk of faith in him. Walking implies action. Our religion is not to be confined to our closet; we must carry out into practical effect that which we believe. If a man walks in Christ, then he so acts as Christ would act; for Christ being in him, his hope, his love, his joy, his life, he is the reflex of the image of Jesus; and men say of that man, “He is like his Master; he lives like Jesus Christ.” Walking signifies progress. “So walk ye in him”; proceed from grace to grace, run forward until you reach the uttermost degree of knowledge that a man can attain concerning our Beloved. Walking implies continuance. There must be a perpetual abiding in Christ. How many Christians think that in the morning and evening they ought to come into the company of Jesus, and may then give their hearts to the world all the day: but this is poor living; we should always be with him, treading in his steps and doing his will. Walking also implies habit. When we speak of a man’s walk and conversation, we mean his habits, the constant tenor of his life. Now, if we sometimes enjoy Christ, and then forget him; sometimes call him ours, and anon lose our hold, that is not a habit; we do not walk in him. We must keep to him, cling to him, never let him go, but live and have our being in him. “As ye have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him”; persevere in the same way in which ye have begun, and, as at the first Christ Jesus was the trust of your faith, the source of your life, the principle of your action, and the joy of your spirit, so let him be the same till life’s end; the same when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and enter into the joy and the rest which remain for the people of God. O Holy Spirit, enable us to obey this heavenly precept.

I could sum up this whole article with one word, repentance.

As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!".

That's truly something that must take place in the life of anyone who has accepted Christ as Savior and Lord. There must be a deep transformation about that person's whole attitudes, lifestyles, identity, and viewpoints. Besides, accepting Christ implies rejecting yourself and your ways by embracing His ways. As result, this is where dying to self comes heavily into play.

Hello TT3
America has convinced its self that repeating a simple prayer from a TV Evangelist or having a priest sprinkle some holy water on them, some how writes their name in the book of life. And after that life goes on like nothing has occurred in them, because the truth is it hasn't.

Shalom

This happens as result of coward preachers not willing to present the gospel to the people as it should be. If people come to Christ while having no plan whatsoever to change their ways, what's the point about coming to Him first? The foundation of the gospel is rested heavily on repentance, meaning that our ways of life are totally unacceptable and detestable in God's sight, and we are on our way to hell as result. So, we come to Christ in order to escape the coming judgement that will befall unrepentant sinners. This type of easy way to heaven you mention in your post is precisely what sinners want.

I think we agree that coming to Christ requires repentace and not just saying 'i am sorry for my trespass'.

But it does bring up another question, is repentance the work of the Holy Spirit or the work of man?

I think that repentance is the fruit of salvation by the person of the Holy Spirit. The way that God operates is that the first step regarding saving and restoring men has already been taken by Him by grace through Christ, so He's waiting patiently for men to come to Him on the basis of acknowledging their sinfulness to Him. The power to bring deep repentance and transformation into people's lives is readily available through the person of the Holy Spirit, so men have to choose willingly to submit themselves to God. Then that power will be unleashed into their lives in order to enable them to forsake their old ways of life.

Does any man seek Christ?
Did Paul seek Christ?
Does the shepherd know his sheep?
Do the sheep know their shepherd ?

Christ Himself tells us how God operates in John 6:44-45 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him,1 and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.

(No one can come to me unless) Huuum UNLESS

Repentance is necessary for salvation but how do you get there from a depraved life?
