Msgt. Denied God at his retirement ceremony

WASHINGTON — Whether Master Sgt. Charles Roberson intended to turn his Air Force Reserve retirement ceremony into a First Amendment and religion battleground is unclear.
But he stood firm when his commanding officer tried to bar a prepared speech by one of his guests invoking God and prayer. Roberson went ahead with his plans, leading to a showdown at Travis Air Force Base in which the speaker, Oscar Rodriguez, was removed from the base auditorium.
