Genesis Chapter 1 verse 4 Did God create darkness?

(1/1)

EnenBelle:
1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Verse 1-2 says that God created heaven and earth and that the earth was without form, it was void and it was dark. But verse 3 clearly implies that God created the light and He went onto call it good. Also my interpretation of the subject is that he created darkness because it was a result of the creation of earth.
So did God create darkness? and why didn't He refer to it as good as he did in verse 4 with the light?

macuser:
Darkness is a lack of light. You're questioning is the same as asking did God create a vacuum.

 You cannot create nothing.
