"For to us a child is born..."

What does Isa.9:6 really mean?  Let's take a close look at it and find out what the prophet is saying.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders.  And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."  Vs 6.

"Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David's throne and over His kingdom, establishing it with justice and righteousness from that time on forever.  The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this."  Vs 7.

In vs 6, Isa.7:14 is confirmed, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel," which means, God with us.  Fulfilled in Lk.1:32; 2:7 and in Mt.1:23.

He was indeed called Wonderful Counselor, because it was the Holy Spirit Jesus received from God, the Holy Spirit, when He produced Him by the virgin Mary and obtaining the title of Father, according to Mt.1:20 and Lk.1:35.  It was the Holy Spirit the Father gave to Jesus, we have all received since Pentecost, confirming Mt.3:11; Mk.1:8; Lk.3:16; Jn.1:33; Acts 2:1-3; 1 Jn.3:24 and 1 Jn.4:13.

Reference to Mighty God and to Everlasting Father can only be attributed to the Father which can be seen as fulfilled in Jesus following remarks:

"Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?  The words I say to you are not just my own.  Rather, it is the Father living in me, who is doing His work."  Jn.14:10.  Also where Jesus stated He and His Father are one, in Jn.10:30 and in 17:21-22 where He prayed to the Father that all of us will also become one with them.  Which was answered with the formulation of the one body of Christ, His Church, through which by the Grace of God, we now all have, whether Jew or Gentile, His free gift of our salvation, through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as we are offered in Jn.3:16.

As the Prince of Peace, we see in Jesus what He will bring us when He establishes His Millennial kingdom here on the earth, as seen in Rev.20:6.  Imagine the entire world at peace for 1,000 years!  Which has never happened since God created Adam and Eve, to this very day.  And we will not see world peace until Jesus returns to us, in His second coming to the earth, recorded in Mt.24:30; Mk.13:26; Lk.21:27; Zech.14:4-5; Jude 14 and Rev,19:14.

Jesus Millennial kingdom is Specifically what Isa.9:7 is referring to, " Of the increase of His government and peace, there will be no end, when He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom.  Establishing it with justice and righteousness from that time on forever.  Reference to Jesus increase of government and peace, there will be no end, alludes to the time when Jesus kingdom here on earth for 1,000 years will end with the passing away of our present heaven and earth and transferred to the new heaven and earth God will provide for us, recorded in Rev.21:1.

What a magnificent prophecy left in that wonderful passage of Scripture for us all to look forwards to.
