Genesis 28:10-22
ERV(i)10 And Jacob went out from Beer–sheba, and went toward Haran 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed 14 and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it 19 And he called the name of that place Beth–el: but the name of the city was Luz at the first 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on 21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee

10-11 He sleep outside he was in such a hurry to flee from his brother who wanted him dead.
12-15 The Lord made Jacob know that he may have used trickery to get the birthright and bleesing but he would be the one God uses to fulfill his promise to Abraham.
16-19 Jacob knew the place was a place of honor because it is where the Lord chose to apear to him.
20-22 Jacob may have known the covenant God made with Abraham and he choses to follow it.

Genesis 32:22-32
ERV(i)22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven children, and passed over the ford of Jabbok 23 And he took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that he had 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained, as he wrestled with him 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, [said he], I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved 31 And the sun rose upon him as he passed over Penuel, and he halted upon his thigh 32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not the sinew of the hip which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip

22-23 Jacob had been away from home for a long time and now both of his parents are dead his father just died and he is coming back. Jacob learned how is feels for family to mistreat family by working for Laban his uncle so Jacob heads home a different man then when he first left.
24-26 Jacob hurt his hip during the fight but he remained persistant and did not let go until he recieved a blessing.
27-28 In these times somebody changing your name showed they had authority over you. So whether this was God or an angel, God had his name change.
29-30 Israel knew this was God working wheter this was actualy God or God's angel, God had him blessed.
31-32 Israel had a reminder for the rest of his life of who God was and that he was in God's favor

Spurgeon teaches that you can find Christ throughout the old testament, so I read it keeping my eyes out for my savor. I see Him here in Genesis 28:12-14.
