Sanctify them through thy truth
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:51:08 pm »
Sanctify them in the truth ; Your word is truth..”
- John 17:17

Sanctification begins in regeneration. The Spirit of God infuses into man that new living principle by which he becomes “a new creature” in Christ Jesus. This work, which begins in the new birth, is carried on in two ways-mortification, whereby the lusts of the flesh are subdued and kept under; and vivification, by which the life which God has put within us is made to be a well of water springing up unto everlasting life. This is carried on every day in what is called “perseverance,” by which the Christian is preserved and continued in a gracious state, and is made to abound in good works unto the praise and glory of God; and it culminates or comes to perfection, in “glory,” when the soul, being thoroughly purged, is caught up to dwell with holy beings at the right hand of the Majesty on high. But while the Spirit of God is thus the author of sanctification, yet there is a visible agency employed which must not be forgotten. “Sanctify them,” said Jesus, “through thy truth: thy word is truth.” The passages of Scripture which prove that the instrument of our sanctification is the Word of God are very many. The Spirit of God brings to our minds the precepts and doctrines of truth, and applies them with power. These are heard in the ear, and being received in the heart, they work in us to will and to do of God’s good pleasure. The truth is the sanctifier, and if we do not hear or read the truth, we shall not grow in sanctification. We only progress in sound living as we progress in sound understanding. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Do not say of any error, “It is a mere matter of opinion.” No man indulges an error of judgment, without sooner or later tolerating an error in practice. Hold fast the truth, for by so holding the truth shall you be sanctified by the Spirit of God.

There's a lot of talk about faith coming from hearing of the Gospel. Please remember that the word or the gospel is the sword Holy Spirit it is His work which brings you to sanctification, using His sword

People often do not spend much time reading the word but the word is needed for the day to day walk with Christ.

Do not say of any error, “It is a mere matter of opinion.”

You cannot have two opposite truths, one must be in error. This is where political correctness has become, as it's been said before, a cancer for the church.

It is hard to understand why man believes that he can improve on God's plan. There is no shortcuts, there is no better way, the road is narrow and we must stay within the boundaries he is set for us.

"For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in god's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous." Rom. 2:13 Hummmm?

Romans 2:11-16
There is no favoritism with God. All those who sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all those who sinned under the law will be judged by the law.  For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be declared righteous.  So, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, instinctively do what the law demands, they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the law.  They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences testify in support of this, and their competing thoughts either accuse or excuse them  on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

"according to my gospel through Christ Jesus." Hummmm?

And who obeys the whole law?
All those who sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all those who sinned under the law will be judged by the law. (Rom 2:12) Hummm?

The law he is referencing is not the OT written code. Rather the law he is referencing is a word that has been added. See Rom. 5:20 and also note that the law was changed after Jesus was crucified. Heb. 7:12 The new wine is put into a new wineskin, i.e. new law.

And the priest being referred to is Melchizedek, who has never changed.

Just listen to your self, you deny the law:

Deuteronomy 6:5 NAS
"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

For it is written:

Deuteronomy 30:6 NAS
"Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

Luke 10: 26 And He said to him, "What is written in the Law ? How does it read to you?" 27 And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND ; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." 28 And He said to him, "You have answered correctly ; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE."
