16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

16 We are united to God by receiving Jesus as Lord; He is our Savior from what we deserve. Jesus died and the sins we commit died with Him, this is why the only sin that is unforgiving is not receiving the Holy Spirit or blaspheming the Holy Ghost.

17 Jesus did not go to a big area but did go to the places most did not in that area place such a Samaria which most would avoid. Jesus impact affected the world and Rome could not stop this effect and years later embraced it and made it their own. Jesus did not just spread the message to the Jews but spread it to anyone He came into contact that would listen, we should follow the example He set, we will not be able to live up to it but it should be what we strive for.




Better to be a servant of the King than to be a king in hell.

I think your theme still continues here with these two verses, the Jews and the Gentiles becoming one in Christ. There's something interesting here though that I thought I would point out, when Paul talks about the near (nigh) he is speaking of the Jews on the other hand the far (afar off) are the Gentiles. What's interesting here that Paul puts to Gentiles first and follows up with the Jews. The most important is usually listed first, however remember Paul's assignment was to preach to the Gentiles. We must remember that this letter was written to a gentile church in Asian minor.

Having slain the enmity (sin) The cross did not put Christ to death but it was sin that was slain!

Jesus could have died a different death penalty just like being hung with a rope. It's amazing He was put on a cross? . if Jesus was hung by a rope all we would see is a noose and a long rope. How can that remind us of Jesus? Now look at the cross. The top is at the head. The sides are as arms and the bottom as legs put together.

To say the cross kind of looks like a person. So if it looks like a person it can remind us of Jesus that man the Son of God born to die for us. . Look at the cross Jesus gave all himself his body, head, arms, and legs. The shape of the cross will show us that. . The cross is always a reminder what Jesus has done for us.
