Born to a servant, and raised under her foreign religious influence, he could not be trusted or expected to keep his father's Covenant with the Lord. The Blessings of the Covenant, therefore fell upon his half-brother Isaac.
Mohammed, the so-called prophet of Islam, is said to be an Ishmaelite.

It is interesting to note what the angel told Hagar about Ishmael, she was pregnant with at the time, in Gen.16, as follows:
11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:
“You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,[a]
for the Lord has heard of your misery.
12
He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.”
Which is an example of how accurate God's prophecies can be, by what is clearly exemplified in the nations he was the forebarer of today.
