Title: Fasting

Like prayer, fasting is to be done in private.

so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret ; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.



And with prayer, fasting has power when the two are used to complement each other.

The purpose of fasting is to help you in prayer not to accomplish anything else.

Fasting is something that seems to be circumstantial. All throughout the Word of God, people engage in this type of activities when there's a significant event that's imminent. Therefore, they run to God through fasting for protection.

Should it be limited to the time of need (foxhole prayer) or should it be a matter of scheduled practice?

Fasting and prayer are both to be done in private and they go with each other. It is not something to be done to boaster our status with men.

There was time for public prayer and fasting for God's people.

1 Kings 21:9 In those letters she wrote: "Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.

Jeremiah 36:9 In the ninth month of the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, a time of fasting before the LORD was proclaimed for all the people in Jerusalem and those who had come from the towns of Judah.
