Title: Pope Francis' latest surprise: a survey on the modern family
Post by: Moss on November 27, 2013, 11:50:41 pm
The question is why have this survey and why from the rank-and-file Roman Catholics? Unless he intends to make doctoral changes.

Quote
Same-sex unions, mixed marriages, single-parent families and surrogate mothers are all mentioned in the prelude to a list of questions that get into the nitty-gritty of 21st century life:

"What pastoral attention can be given to people who live in these types of [same-sex] union?"

"In the case of unions of persons of the same sex who have adopted children, what can be done pastorally in light of transmitting the faith?"

"Do [the divorced and remarried] feel marginalized or suffer from the impossibility of receiving the sacraments?"

"In cases where non-practicing Catholics or declared non-believers request the celebration of marriage, describe how this pastoral challenge is dealt with."

Again the defense of this is that there is a translation problem of what the pope said. It may be, I don't know.

I don't understand why nonbelievers want to be married anyway. This is a union that was prescribed by God, not man. Marriage outside the church by nonbelievers is nothing more than a civil contract that has adopted the Christian marriage label. There is nothing holy or sacred about a marriage that occurs outside of the church.
