So what does it mean to "believe in Him"?
« on: November 18, 2013, 11:45:36 am »
John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

So what does it mean to "believe in Him"?

We know that Satan and his demons believe of Him. They recognize that Christ is the Son of God and has authority over them. So believing OF Him and IN must not be the same.

Luke 4:33  Now in the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon. And he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!"

So what brings you salvation and why doesn't Satan's demons also get salvation?

First of all who does He say He is?

Old Testament.

Gen 15:1
I am your shield;

Gen 17:1
I am God Almighty. Live in My presence and be devout

Gen 26:24
I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you

Gen 28:15
Look, I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Gen 35:11
I am God Almighty

Gen 46:3
I am God, the God of your father.

Exodus 3:6
I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Exodus 3:14-15
"I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you. "Say this to the Israelites: Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.

Exodus 6:6
I am Yahweh, and I will deliver you from the forced labor of the Egyptians and free you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgment.

Exodus 22:27
I am compassionate.

Exodus 29:46
I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, so that I might dwell among them.

New Testament.

Mat 11:29
I am gentle and humble in heart,

Mat 22:32
He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Mat 27:43
I am God's Son.

Mat 28:20
I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Mark 1:41
I am willing,

Mark 8:29
Messiah

Luke 9:20
God's Messiah

John 6:35, 48
I am the bread of life,

John 7:29
I know Him because I am from Him, and He sent Me.

John 8:12
I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life

John 8:23, 24
I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
For if you do not believe that I am [He], you will die in your sins

John 8:42
I came from God

John 8:58
I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am

John 10:7, 9, 11
I assure you: I am the door of the sheep.
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

John 10:38
Father is in Me and I in the Father.

John 11:25
I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live

John 13:13
You call Me Teacher and Lord. This is well said, for I am

John 14:6
"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 15:1
"I am the true vine, and My Father is the vineyard keeper.

I think it is clear that we follow Him as opposed to know of Him. Satan and his demons do not follow Him, this is the deffrence.

One of the things to believe in the Lord Jesus (Acts 22:19) means, is to pray to the Lord Jesus (Acts 9:14, 21).

And of course prayer is due unto God alone.

“In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.”
John‬ 16:26-27‬ NASB‬‬
