Peter's advice to young Christians.
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:47:21 pm »

1 Peter 5
5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Take it from an old man, the closer you get to God through prayer the easier it is to follow Peter's advice.

Be self-controlled and alert.

That is easier said than done but I believe that is the key, that is why you have been given the Holy Spirit so that you have the strength for self-control.

Alternatively, the more you take Peter's advice the easier it is to get close to God!

Peter said that God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore by dispassionately choosing to respect your elders, you humble yourself. that makes you open to God's grace.

Close friends communicate with each other, I just find it an easier chore to enter battle with a close friend, as opposed to fighting next to a stranger. There is no fear when God is near.

Seeking advice is good but in today's world we always need to compare what we are told to what the scriptures say.

Seeking advice is good but in today's world we always need to compare what we are told to what the scriptures say.

If every Christian took that advice, half of the denominations of Christianity would no longer exist. They do not teach what is in the Scriptures but teach what man wants to hear.
