Courage in ActionBe on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Courage maintains itself by ardent action, as some birds rest on the wing. There is an energy about agility that will often give a man strength which he might not have possessed otherwise. We can picture a gallant regiment into the valley of death at a dashing gallop, but we could scarcely imagine soldiers marching slowly up to the guns, coolly calculating all the deadly odds of the adventure. We should obey as our Lord did: “straightway.” When the Lord gives his servants grace to follow out their convictions as they feel them, then they act courageously. First thoughts are best in the service of God; they are like Gideon’s men that lapped water. Second thoughts come up timorously and limpingly, and incite us to make provision for our weaknesses; they are like those men whom Gideon discarded because they went down on their knees to drink, they took things too leisurely to be fit for the Lord’s battles.
