Yes some good questions, why did the Catholic Church put to death anyone who tried to translate the scripture into language that the people could read? And why did the church for thousand years only give their sermons in Latin?
The only answer I can come up with is that the church did not want the congregation to study the Scriptures. And the answer to that is obvious to anyone who has actually studied written word of God.
