A Prayer by F. B. MEYER

Impart to me, heavenly Father, I pray, a self-forgetful spirit, that I may be more anxious to give than to receive, more eager to understand than to be understood, more thoughtful of others, more forgetful of myself.

Send me, O Lord, I humbly ask, good success this day. Teach me when to speak and when to be silent; when to act and when to refrain from action; and in all the details of daily life, to do your will on earth as it is done in heaven.

May I give, not things only, but myself to others, with full measure, heaped up and running over. May I despair of no one, and look for nothing in return.

Fill me, I entreat you, with such an absorbing passion for your kingdom and glory that I may be eager for you to be glorified, though I die unrecognized and unknown.
